Installation
  1. 1
    Run the installer
Double-click the .pkg and walk through the macOS installer. It places the AU at /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/, the VST3 at /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/, and the standalone app at /Applications/MockingByrd.app.
  2. 2
Profiles + seed presets are bundled
The six amp profiles and a handful of validated seed presets install automatically to ~/Library/Application Support/MockingByrd/. Nothing to download separately.
  3. 3
    Restart your DAW
Plugin formats only get rescanned on launch. Fully quit and reopen your DAW; the plugin shows up under JNPR Labs → MockingByrd. No DAW? Open /Applications/MockingByrd.app and grant microphone permission.
“Developer cannot be verified”? The installer is signed and notarized by Apple, so this shouldn't appear. If it does, right-click the installer and choose Open, then confirm — and let us know, since it likely means a bad download.

The full amp engine, the pedalboard, the tuner and browser tone delivery — same code as the Mac build. Not yet code-signed, so Windows shows a one-time SmartScreen prompt before the installer runs (see the note below), and take recording is macOS-only for now.

Installation
  1. 1
    Click through the SmartScreen prompt
Windows pauses the installer on first run because it isn't code-signed yet. This is expected — the exact two clicks are in the box below.
  2. 2
    Run the installer
It places the VST3 at C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\MockingByrd.vst3 and the standalone app at C:\Program Files\MockingByrd\MockingByrd.exe, and offers to launch it when it finishes.
  3. 3
Profiles + seed presets are bundled
The six amp profiles and a set of validated seed presets install to %APPDATA%\MockingByrd\Profiles and \Presets. They are left in place if you uninstall, so your own tones survive a reinstall.
  4. 4
    Restart your DAW
Most hosts only rescan VST3s on launch. Fully quit and reopen your DAW; the plugin shows up under JNPR Labs → MockingByrd. No DAW? Launch the standalone app and pick your audio interface.
Windows will say “Windows protected your PC”. That blue box is expected, not a bad download: this build carries no code-signing certificate yet. Click “More info”, then the “Run anyway” button that appears. Some antivirus tools flag unsigned installers for the same reason — if yours quarantines the file, check the file you downloaded against the SHA-256 printed above before you allow it.

Troubleshooting

Plugin not showing in your DAW after install
Most DAWs only rescan on launch. Fully quit and reopen. In Logic, you may also need to validate the AU under Preferences → Plug-In Manager. On Windows it is VST3 only — if your host lists no VST3 folder, point it at C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.
Windows blocked the installer
Expected — the Windows build is an unsigned test build. On the “Windows protected your PC” screen click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. If your antivirus quarantined the file instead, compare its SHA-256 against the one printed on the download card before allowing it.
No sound coming out
First check the header button — MockingByrd always starts on '● MUTED' by design, and one click switches it to '○ Input Live'. That is the cause far more often than anything else. After that: Input Source defaults to 'Both (sum)' but single-input interfaces usually need 'Left' or 'Right', and input and output should be set to the SAME device.
Want to generate a custom preset?
Generate a tone at mockingbyrd.fm/generate, link your plugin once, and hit “Load in plugin” — it arrives live in your open plugin within a few seconds.
